I, along with the Clark Honors College administration and faculty, are working on developing a Summer Reading Program for the college. Here’s the summary of the program, benefits, etc.
SUMMARY:
The Honors College Summer Reading Program would be a new activity that entering freshman participate in. During IntroDUCKtion, they would be given a book by the Honors College, with perhaps a short explanation of the book’s meaningfulness. The chosen book would be applicable to a variety of interests, be provocative and have an inspirational message or story. The book would be discussed by HC students at NSO and somewhat in the CHIPs and Honors Residence Halls. [Read more →]

Last month, Haiti was rocked by a series of storms that left a devastating toll. With little to no disaster management infrastructure, over a million were displaced, and thousands lost their homes and possessions. In a world where 50 cents per day is a economic reality, these losses come not as a setback but as a death sentence. Well, my list was far from complete. I didn’t swim in the willamette or even go to hoda’s. Seattle was pretty awesome, albiet a little gray and rainyish. Other highlights of my weeks of summer Include a day spent floating on waldo lake, many trips to powells, a really great gormet dinner and a lot of bad shari’s coffee.
So, I realized that Web 2.0 can waste a LOT of your time, but that overall, blogs are a good idea. I think integration with all your other social-networking stuff is cool–eventually, we’ll all probably have our own sites instead of pre-built things like facebook.
